Johannesburg - While wishing former president Nelson Mandela a joyful 93rd birthday, the South African Communist Party added that the biggest threat to his political legacy was rampant corruption in the public and private sector, the party said on Sunday.
“As we celebrate his birthday and his legacy, we must recognise that the threats to his legacy are corruption, crass materialism and the use of our organisations as platforms for self accumulation,” said spokesperson Malesela Maleka in a statement.
“We must fight poverty, unemployment and inequality to give meaning to his 93 years of sacrifice for the good of our people,” he said.
The SACP said Mandela served with selfless dedication and embodied values that had been adored worldwide.
