Life sentence for child rapist

A 19-year old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a nine-year old girl in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Friday.

Slamuleleni Zunge was found guilty by the Nongoma Regional Court on Thursday of raping the girl in July 2010, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

The crime was reported after the child's caregiver noticed that she was acting strangely.

She told the girl's mother, who took her to a clinic where it was confirmed she had been raped.

Zwane said Zunge was arrested in Nongoma on August 1 2010. - Sapa
