Two men accused of robbing and killing a tuck shop owner have been arrested at their homes in Dubeni Ward, Melmoth, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.
The pair, aged 20 and 23, were taken into custody on Tuesday, Captain Thulani Zwane said.
They apparently forced their way into the home of Vincent Mpungose, 40, while he was asleep and shot him in the chest at 9pm on December 22, 2011.
“They stole an undisclosed amount of money and three cellphones,” Zwane said.
When the men were arrested, police recovered a cellphone and an unlicensed firearm believed to be the murder weapon.
The men would appear in the Melmoth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on charges of house robbery and murder. – Sapa
